HAPPIER, HEALTHIER MEN, TODAY
If you know man who is ready to be stronger in himself and more confident in how he is in his family, his marriage, his work, please share the links I've shared
Dear men (and women who may know men who are ready),
The bad behaviour of a few men (the Hockey 5, the Cornell 7) is very much on my mind these days. Is this aberrant behaviour? Or is it a symptom of something wrong with how we think of ourselves and each other as men?
I am the grandfather of girls. I am the father of women, and the brother of women. I am the son of a woman. I am a man who is loved by a woman. How I behave, and how other men behave, it matters to the women in my life. It matters to me. The more I learn about how we can be as men, the more it matters to me.
Groups of men, and men’s groups
We have plenty of evidence that groups of men, in this culture, are not healthy. We are too often a danger for women. Whether it's a boys hockey team or a frat club, we are too often bad for women. And for each other.
Men's groups grew out of a need for a different way of being together. We can be healthy, with women and with each other. We can be happier. The women in our lives can feel safer, and happier. Men's groups can help make that happen.
If you're interested in an in-person or online men’s group, I suggest you look at what the ManKind Project and ARKA Brotherhood are doing. You can find them here: https://mankindproject.org/ and https://arkabrotherhood.com/join/
I know men involved in both organizations, nationally and locally. They're quality men. Men I trust.
There is never a bad time for us to find ways to be better, as a man. The women in my life, and the women in your life, will live better lives for it. I know. I watch it happening every day. You will see that happen in your life too.
Sharing this email
The kind of change that happens in men’s groups is often incremental. It may not be perceptible. But it's happening.
It may look like a change in attitude, a shift that affects other men's attitudes and behaviours. It may be a gentleness, that allows other men to relax, be more of who they are without the chip on their shoulder. It may feel like a deeper strength, a strength that allows children, women, and other men to just be who they are.
If you know man who is ready to be stronger in himself and more confident in how he is in his family, his marriage, his work, please share the links I've shared. Or just pass on this email. It matters to me. It matters to the women and children and other men in their lives.
