FALLING, I TRUST MYSELF
Every step is a risk.
Apprenticeship to Love: March 30, 2026
TODAY'S MEDITATION
What strange magic is it that allows a cat to fall, and to land on four feet? It is the magic that love teaches. Unfortunately, few of us seem willing to take the risk of commitment —of marriage— that love invites us to take.
...
It is the most frightening thing, to fall...
But, today, I trust myself to fall. I trust myself to lose my balance and lose myself and lose my way. I trust myself so much that I allow myself to fail. I allow myself to hurt. To blame. To shrink. To hide.
I trust myself to breathe and, breathing, to fall into balance.
I trust myself to fall forward and to dance! I trust the deep and magical power of my passion, and I persist in falling again and again through unending moments of collapse and becoming.
I trust myself to breathe and hold her safe and celebrate her and ravish her and to dissolve into her radiant and tremulous blossoming.
I am only alive, fully alive, in this most unreasonable moment of trusting myself, falling and turning and moving in this dance of chasing the poles of balance/falling.
...
Every step is a risk. But I know enough about dancing that I am trusting –but not entirely!– the structure and discipline of my body and my nervous system. I've practiced, and I continue to practice. Daily. Because I trust that practice helps me to find my art and my way. I am dancing.
Dancing I am trusting –but not entirely!– her gushing flow of beauty and tenderness and pain and confusion.
I am dancing. Dancing I am only trusting entirely the unimagined art that is born between the poles of being/balance and becoming/falling. Awareness and unfolding...
Today I trust myself, falling.
